The American subsidiary of a Japanese company that supplies wiring harnesses to Honda of America Manufacturing and other automobile manufacturers will be the primary tenant of a 292,000-square-foot warehouse under construction on the east side of Walcutt Road, north of Trabue Road and south of Roberts Road, in Columbus.

It is not far south of Hilliard's borders and is within the boundaries of the Hilliard City Schools.

American Furukawa will occupy two-thirds of the warehouse under construction on 20 acres at 1860 Walcutt Road, said Ben Struewing, an executive vice president for Los Angeles-based Hackman Capital Partners, which is building the warehouse.

The rest of the warehouse remains available for lease, he said.

American Furukawa, headquartered in Plymouth, Michigan, is an American subsidiary of Japan-based Furukawa Electric Co., Struewing said.

Walcutt Road will be widened to build turn lanes sometime in April, and the warehouse is expected to be occupied by June, he said.

"They are in an expansion phase," Struewing said about American Furukawa.

The company is relocating from a smaller facility nearby at 2181 International St.

Meanwhile, a sign near the construction site March 12 announced a temporary closure of Walcutt for roadwork from 7 a.m. Saturday, March 16, to 5 a.m. Monday, March 18. The sign was between International Street and Trabue Road.
