Whitehall police arrested a 34-year-old Columbus man for OVI, reckless operation of a motor vehicle and leaving the scene of accident, as well as a 37-year-old Columbus man on an outstanding warrant, at 3:30 p.m. March 4 in the 3800 block of East Main Street.

Police responded to a report of a man driving a red truck that allegedly struck several vehicles in the Main Street parking lot.

Upon arrival, police found the driver behind the steering wheel and ordered him out of the vehicle, according to reports.

Police reported an odor of alcohol on the man and that his vehicle had sustained body damage.

While removing the driver, the passenger reportedly became belligerent and also was removed and detained, police said.

The driver could not stand without assistance nor speak clearly to officers, according to reports.

A third passenger in the truck, a woman, told police she was in the vehicle, but for a short time "catching a ride," and that "everything was fine" until the two men began to argue and the driver became erratic.

The driver reportedly had struck a vehicle en route to the East Main Street parking lot and was the original caller to police, according to reports.

An accident report indicated the driver struck a vehicle at South Hamilton Road and Mound Street.

According to reports, police observed multiple open bottles of beer on the back seat of the vehicle and an empty brandy bottle on the ground next to the driver's-side door.

While at the police station, the driver continued to have difficulty balancing and walked into walls, police said.

He also reportedly urinated into a trash can while waiting in a holding room.

The man submitted to a breath test, which indicated an alcohol content of 0.264 percent, according to reports. Ohio drivers are considered impaired at a blood-alcohol concentration of 0.08 percent.

The vehicle was impounded, and the female passenger was released, reports said.
