One of two new elementary school buildings to be added to Dublin City Schools officially has a name.

The Dublin Board of Education on March 18 unanimously voted 5-0 to name the Bright Road school Hopewell Elementary School.

Board members selected Hopewell from a list of four finalists -- the others being Amorose, Bright Road and Chi Weber. Names came from a survey the district’s elementary-naming committee had produced.

Nearly 5,000 residents completed the survey in two weeks, according to a district presentation.

Hopewell was suggested based on Hopewell American Indian burial mounds close to the school site, according to the presentation.

Chi Weber was a former school board member who was a World War II and Korean War veteran.

Amorose is the last name of a longtime Dublin family with a history of community contributions.

The naming committee in May will return to the board with name recommendations for the other elementary school to be built in Jerome Village, according to the presentation.

Both elementary schools are funded by the combination $195 million bond issue, a 2-mill permanent-improvements levy and a 5.9-mill operating levy approved by voters in November.
