A standoff between Columbus Division of Police SWAT officers and a man at a northwest Columbus residence ended before 4 p.m. Monday, March 18, when the man fatally shot himself, according to police spokeswoman Denise Alex-Bouzounis.

Columbus police made the announcement at 3:50 p.m.

The incident at the man's residence on the 5500 block of Goose Falls Drive started after his wife called 911 at 12:13 p.m., Alex-Bouzounis said. The man, who was described as being in his early 40s, had barricaded himself in a garage at the residence, she said.

The neighborhood is northwest of Hilliard and southwest of Dublin, and it is just north of Hayden Run Boulevard.

His wife and children were at the residence when the incident began, Alex-Bouzounis said, but they were able to leave it before it ended.

Some neighbors were evacuated during the incident, she said.

No details immediately were available.
