A Columbus man has been charged with operating a dogfighting ring out of his home, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday, April 4.
German Sanchez, 34, of the West Side was arrested Thursday morning after sheriff’s deputies raided his Dexter Avenue home.
Detectives were initially investigating Sanchez on suspicion of drug charges, but they uncovered evidence of a dogfighting ring as they continued to look into his activities, sheriff’s spokesman Marc Gofstein said.
Deputies searched his home and found 13 live adult pitbulls, a live Yorkshire terrier, seven live puppies and one dead puppy, Gofstein said.
The breed of the puppies is uncertain, he said.
