At the Community Champion Awards program ceremony April 20, the Dublin Chamber of Commerce and Dublin City Schools recognized more than 220 outstanding students and staff for exemplifying volunteerism, character, leadership and a sense of caring and responsibility for others. The 14-year-old Community Champion Awards program has recognized nearly 2,800 students and staff of Dublin City Schools and awarded more than $67,000 in savings bonds and scholarships.

Each Community Champion Award honoree received a limited-edition medal, as well as a gift bag filled with goodies and gift certificates from area businesses.

In addition, one student in each grade K-11 received $100 in a 529 plan account, and 12 seniors received $1,000 or $500 scholarships.

A 529 plan is a college tuition savings plan that offers tax and financial aid benefits. It gets its name from Section 529 of the Internal Revenue Code.
