Construction is underway on the first of three new hotels in Hilliard's Cemetery Road corridor west of Interstate 270.
Meanwhile, work is planned to begin on the second hotel in the next 30 to 60 days, but plans remain uncertain for the third.
Construction began in mid-December on a $12.6 million, 94-room TownePlace Suites, a Marriott brand, on a portion of the former site of JD Equipment, 4079 Lyman Drive.
The 5.6-acre parcel is on the west side of Lyman Drive, south of All Seasons Drive and east of Britton Parkway.
Innsight Hospitality LLC is building the TownePlace Suites on about 2.5 acres at the back of the parcel, said Mark Patel of Luxe Hotels, the construction-management company for the project.
The remainder of the land will have commercial uses, according to David Meadows, Hilliard's economic-development director.
"The stairs and elevator shafts are done ... (and) the project is moving quickly," Patel said.
It should be open by the first quarter of 2020, he said.
The TownePlace Suites will include an indoor pool, fitness areas and "extra amenities" not common to all hotels in the brand, Patel said.
The hotel will have an exterior finish in scarlet and gray, a nod to the "Buckeye State," he said.
It also will feature an outdoor patio with grills and electrical-vehicle charging ports, Patel said.
To the southeast of the TownePlace Suites, at the corner of Cemetery Road and Lyman Drive, site work is beginning for a 4-story, 92-room Avid Hotel.
It will be on the site of the former McDonald's restaurant at 3900 Lyman Drive.
InterContinental Hotel Groups, which operates the Holiday Inn Express brand, is building the Avid Hotel.
"We've started civil-engineering and are doing some site work, but no construction has started," said Sujay Mehta of Hilliard Hotel Group, the developer of the site.
But the construction timeline for the third hotel, a 4-story, 97-room Tru by Hilton at 3950 Lyman Drive, west of the Hampton Inn & Suites at the same address, remains unclear.
A lot split would create a new address for the Tru by Hilton.
"We are going to wait. ... It's on pause," said David Kozar, a principal of Indus Hotels, the developer and management company for the hotel.
If all three hotels are completed, it would increase the number of hotels in the city limits to seven.
Hilliard also has a Hampton Inn & Suites at 3950 Lyman Drive, a Rodeway Inn at 3950 Parkway Lane, a Homewood Suites at 3841 Park Mill Run Drive and a Best Western at 3831 Park Mill Run Drive.
The city has a 6% bed tax applied to each hotel room rented per night.
