ThisWeek Community News has launched a new app that will allow our readers to receive breaking-news alerts on their mobile devices.

And it’s free.

ThisWeek, central Ohio’s source for community news and high school sports, prides itself on a web-first philosophy. Analytics indicate readers have come to expect hyperlocal breaking news and sports at ThisWeekNEWS.com and ThisWeekSPORTS.com. ThisWeek’s app gets those stories to you quicker.

The “ThisWeek News” app gives you immediate access to up-to-date stories in the 21 communities within ThisWeek’s coverage area in Franklin, Delaware and Fairfield counties.

Upon opening the app, you’ll see the latest news stories published online at ThisWeekNEWS.com, which also is free.

The menu is easily navigable and highlights high school sports, “police beat” and a popular “Food & Wine” section. It also provides direct links to individual communities so you can read only the news and sports of your hometown; however, don’t hesitate to drift into stories from other communities because those might grab your interest as well.

When news breaks – whether it’s crime, restaurants opening or closing, major development or high school sports – you’ll receive an alert on your mobile device. Clicking on the alert will take you directly to the story.

The app is available for iPhones and iPads on the App Store at tinyurl.com/yxvurhua and for Androids on Google Play at tinyurl.com/y68mv5qf.

Make sure when you download the app, you enable the “push notifications” feature so we can provide you with breaking news.
