Capital Kia is looking to make Northland its permanent home.

CORRECTION: The Capital Kia auto dealership intends to move east, not west, on Morse Road. The print and earlier online version of this story gave the wrong direction.

Capital Kia is looking to make Northland its permanent home.

The auto dealership, 2950 Morse Road near Easton Town Center, wants to move east to the old Tesla repair site at 3445 Morse Road.

The Columbus Development Commission on June 13 gave its approval for a rezoning that would allow Capital Kia to move to the 6-acre property west of Sunbury Road.

Columbus City Council is expected to take up the matter in July before its August break, said attorney Jeffrey L. Brown, who's representing the Kia dealership.

The rezoning was necessary because the land was annexed from Mifflin Township to the city of Columbus and has a rural-zoning designation.

The dealership is seeking commercial-planned-development-district zoning for the site.

John Oney, architect for the project, said the dealership wants to move because it is leasing the property at 2950 Morse Road and expects to purchase its future site. That move is planned for March 2020.

"We're very anxious to move forward, to update the Kia store and the business," he said.
