Whitehall City Schools is restructuring its administration to eliminate an assistant superintendent position, said Ty Debevoise, director of communications and marketing for the district.
Whitehall Assistant Superintendent Kristin Barker will depart the district effective July 31. School board members accepted her resignation July 11.
Barker was hired as Whitehall's director of secondary education Aug. 1, 2014, and later was named assistant superintendent.
Her annual salary is $126,554; with benefits, her total compensation package is valued at $190,326, Debevoise said.
Barker has accepted a position as superintendent of the Morgan Local School District.
The district is near McConnelsville in Morgan County, between Cambridge and Marietta.
"I have loved working with the teachers, students and families of Whitehall during the past five years," Barker said. "The progress we have made has been nothing short of amazing and I look forward to watching (Whitehall's) continued success."
The district, the only one in Morgan County, has about 2,000 students.
"It poses challenges that intrigue me," Barker said.
Morgan and Whitehall schools students face similar financial hurdles, yet Morgan's "concerns and issues are very different, (and) I am looking forward to what the future holds," Barker said.
Debevoise said Barker's position will not be filled.
"As far as a successor, we are reworking our organizational chart," he said. "We will not replace Dr. Barker with another assistant superintendent."
Mark Trace remains as the district's deputy superintendent, handling human resources, Debevoise said.
In another personnel change, Crystal Johnson has been named coordinator of student services, a position that "will take over many of the responsibilities that Dr. Barker handled," Debevoise said.
The position that Johnson assumes is new to the district, Debevoise said.
Johnson will resign as assistant principal at Whitehall-Yearling High School effective July 31 to become coordinator of student services, effective Aug. 1.
Board members approved the change July 11.
As assistant principal, Johnson earns $84,581, with a total compensation package valued at $108,340, according to Debevoise.
As coordinator of student services, she will earn $93,875, with a compensation package valued at $122,076, Debevoise said.
The board also acted to hire, effective Aug. 1, Maria Boyarko as assistant principal at Whitehall-Yearling High School, succeeding Johnson.
Boyarko comes to Whitehall from South-Western City Schools.
The district's restructuring also includes a new assistant-principal position at Kae Avenue Elementary School.
Board members June 13 approved the hiring of Lauren King as an assistant principal at the school, effective July 30.
King comes to Whitehall schools from the Northridge School District.
She will earn a salary of $60,564. The total value of her compensation package has not been determined, Debevoise said.
The district's Early Literacy Campus, which comprises Kae Avenue and the C. Ray Williams Early Childhood Center, has a larger student enrollment than Beechwood and Etna Road elementary schools and warranted the new position, Debevoise said.
All the district's kindergarten and first-grade students attend the campus, while students in grades 2-5 attend either Beechwood or Etna Road.
There are no plans to hire an assistant principal at the other two elementary schools, Debevoise said.
