Nostalgia might factor into the halftime performances of the New Albany High School Marching Eagles this football season.

Music from the Beatles and Huey Lewis and the News will be included in the marching band's shows, according to band director Darren Falk.

The 118-member band's camp was July 14 to 18 at Camp McPherson in Danville, Falk said. Band members focused on fundamental skills and pregame music, as well as rehearsing for their patriotic show and the first halftime show Friday, Aug. 30.

Falk said he appreciates the students' hard work and determination.

"They never quit trying to improve," he said.

Falk said he is excited to work with the band's large incoming freshman class of 46, which he described as very talented.

The Marching Eagles are a vital component to the spirit of New Albany High School, said district spokesman Patrick Gallaway.

"Along with our cheerleaders, student section and drill team, the marching band creates an incredible atmosphere for our football games, spirit assemblies, entertainment on campus and more," he said.

District leaders are proud of the band and look forward to an exciting fall season of performances, including the band's tribute to U.S. veterans Sept. 6 with the high school's choirs, Gallaway said.

In addition, on Oct. 12 at Eagle Stadium, the Marching Eagles will play host to the sixth annual New Albany High School Marching Band Festival, Falk said.

Tickets to the band festival will go on sale in September at, he said.

The event, a showcase of musical talent, will feature the Marching Eagles performing songs by the Beatles, he said. Food trucks will be available at 5:30 p.m., and bands will perform starting at 7 p.m.

Other high school marching bands expected to participate are Buckeye Valley, Centerburg, Danville, Lehman Catholic, Mount Vernon, Olentangy Berlin, Utica and Westerville Central, Falk said. The event also will feature performances by the New Albany High School choir and drama department, he said.
