A 2-year-old boy died Aug. 19 in a drowning accident at a Saint Christopher Lane residence, according to Whitehall police.

Officers responded to a 911 call at 3:29 p.m. Aug. 19 to a residence in the 100 block of Saint Christopher Lane.

Defense Logistics Agency medics -- those stationed at the U.S. Department of Defense base on East Broad Street in Whitehall -- responded to the scene and were treating the 2-year-old when police arrived, according to reports.

An initial investigation revealed the father was working in the backyard of the home while the boy's mother was sleeping, reports said.

After hearing a splash, the boy's father told police he saw the boy in the pool, removed him and carried him to a bedroom where the mother was sleeping and then began CPR and called 911, reports said.

The boy was transported to Nationwide Children's Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 4:25 p.m., according to reports.

The case remains open, Whitehall police Chief Mike Crispen said, but no charges are expected.

"We can't close it until the coroner's report comes in, (but there are) no suspicions of criminal behavior at this time," Crispen said.
