Spagio, a steady force on the upscale dining scene of central Ohio, has been sold to another restaurant group.

Chef Hubert Seifert, who founded Spagio in 1981, announced the sale of his restaurant Wednesday, Sept. 4.

Spagio, 1295 Grandview Ave., and an adjacent wine lounge were sold to the locally based Wine|Dine Holdings and CityBrands, which owns and operates several concepts throughout central Ohio, including the Wine Bistro, Napa Kitchen + Bar and Katzinger’s Delicatessen, according to a press release.

Both Seifert and his wife, Helga, who also was involved in the restaurant, will stay on during the transition.

Mike Waters, former executive chef at the Worthington Inn, has been hired as executive chef at Spagio and has been working with Seifert and his culinary team for several months.

Spagio will undergo improvements and modifications through the fall. Updates to the menu will take place during this time as well, with new menu items being introduced weekly throughout the fall. The restaurant will remain open during the renovations.

Seifert said in a statement that he is taking “some steps toward retiring.”
