The city of Groveport has added "No Parking" signs in certain locations in an effort to heighten awareness of parking restrictions in neighborhoods.

City Council had discussed painting curbs but instead determined signs would be "the best route," according to a news release.

Residents should be aware that parking is prohibited:

* Within 10 feet of a fire hydrant

* On a crosswalk

* Within 20 feet of a crosswalk at an intersection

* Within 30 feet of and upon the approach to any flashing beacon, stop sign or traffic control device

* At any locations where signs prohibit stopping, standing or parking, or where the curbing or street is painted yellow, or at any place in excess of the maximum time limited by signs.

Violations are punishable by a minor misdemeanor, however, repeat offenses will result in higher penalties.

"Groveport City Council hopes that these measures will ensure greater public safety and will further enhance the quality of life on every street in every neighborhood of the city," the release said.
