Whitehall police have identified a 13-year-old boy as the suspect in the shooting of a 21-year-old man Dec. 2 in the 800 block of South Hamilton Road.
Police identified Gregorio Canchola, 13, whose last known address was in the 5000 block of Winslow Avenue in Whitehall, as the suspect in the shooting.
The victim is 21-year-old Rogelio Moran, police said.
Around 5:20 p.m. Dec. 2, police responded to the rear of Kroger, 850 S. Hamilton Road, on the report of a shooting.
There, police found Moran suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Moran was transported to an area hospital, where he is in stable condition with wounds that are not considered life-threatening, according to Whitehall police.
Whitehall Deputy Chief Dan Kelso said Canchola and Moran are known acquaintances and were behind the grocery store when a disagreement occurred between them. That's when Canchola shot Moran, Kelso said.
Canchola then fled on foot, he said.
Canchola is charged with attempted murder; police have issued a warrant for his arrest.
He is considered armed and dangerous and anyone who sees Canchola is advised to not attempt to detain him but to call Whitehall police at 614-237-6333.
He is described as 5 feet, 8 inches tall and 190 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.
