The 13-year-old Whitehall boy wanted for the attempted murder of a 21-year-old a man was arrested Friday, Dec. 6, at an apartment in Circleville.

Gregorio Canchola, 13, was arrested at 12:08 p.m. Dec. 6 at an apartment building at 425 Half Ave. in the city of Circleville, Whitehall Deputy Chief Dan Kelso said.

Whitehall detectives and SWAT officers took Canchola into custody without incident, Kelso said.

Canchola is charged with one count of attempted murder in the shooting of 21-year-old Juan A. Contreras-Moran, whom police originally and incorrectly identified as Rogelio Moran at the time of the shooting, according to Whitehall police.

Around 5:20 p.m. Dec. 2, police responded to the rear of Kroger, 850 S. Hamilton Road, on the report of a shooting.

There, police found Moran suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Moran was transported to an area hospital, where he was admitted in stable condition with wounds that are not considered life-threatening, Kelso said. He has since been released, he said.

The shooting “is not a random crime,” Kelso said.

Canchola and Moran are known acquaintances and it is believed the shooting stemmed from an argument, Kelso said.
