Gahanna-Jefferson Public Schools announced Dec. 10 that Mike Verlingo will be recommended as the district’s next treasurer.

Verlingo, 61, who most recently worked as treasurer of North Ridgeville City Schools, a suburb of Cleveland, will be considered for employment at the Thursday, Dec. 12, Gahanna school board meeting.

His annual salary is estimated to be $135,000, plus a benefit package of $60,495.54 that includes retirement and insurance.

“I am passionate about education and the opportunity it provides,” Verlingo said. “I look forward to becoming part of the leadership team of Gahanna-Jefferson Public Schools and the community, to assist in providing high-quality, cost-effective education to the students of our district.”

Gahanna Superintendent Steve Barrett said Verlingo has vast experience in finance and as a school treasurer.

“He understands how school finance works and the importance of balancing fiscal prudence with ensuring teachers and students have what they need to succeed in the classroom. We are pleased to welcome Mike to our team,” Barrett said.

Beryl Brown Piccolantonio, board president, said she and other board members look forward to having Verlingo on the team.

“We are very appreciative to the staff and community members who participated in the interview process,” she said. “The feedback we received was invaluable.”

Prior to his appointment at North Ridgeville, Verlingo was treasurer of Shawnee Local Schools and Clark County Educational Service Center.

He also has worked as a finance manager in the private sector and holds a certified public accountant license.

Verlingo received a bachelor's degree from the University of Dayton and a master's degree in business administration from Xavier University.

The Gahanna treasurer's post became available when former treasurer Kristine Blind accepted a position with London City Schools.

Pending the board’s approval, Verlingo is scheduled to begin his duties in Gahanna on Jan. 13.
