Whitehall police responded to a report of a man with a gun at 6:40 p.m. Dec. 14 at an apartment on the 100 block of South Yearling Road.

The man reportedly was brandishing a gun while making threats to shoot people.

The caller who reported the incident was intoxicated, according to reports.

Police approached the apartment of the alleged suspect and detained him. The man had no weapon in his possession, and after he gave police consent to search the apartment, no weapon was found, reports said.

The man told police he made "vague statements" about guns after a dispute with people who had been at the apartment but denied owning any guns, according to reports.

Due to the absence of any firearms, conflicting statements between the caller and the suspect and the lack of additional witnesses or physical evidence, police determined there was no probable cause for arrest, reports said.
