A Sheetz gas station and convenience store will make its central Ohio debut near the village of Obetz in southeastern Franklin County, an official with the company said Thursday, Feb. 6.

Beyond that, few details were available, including when it will open. The company previously announced its intention to open a location in central Ohio in spring 2021.

Nick Ruffner, spokesman for the company based in Altoona, Pennsylvania, said it is “still too early to confirm any other details on the project.”

No one from Obetz could be reached immediately for comment.

If you ask any devotee of Sheetz, its arrival in Columbus is a big deal.

The company specializes in more than gasoline, selling made-to-order food and specialty drinks, as well as snacks and beverages, in its stores.

Sheetz, a family-run company which opened in 1952, operates more than 500 stores throughout Maryland, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia, according to the company's website.

The stores closest to Columbus are in Zanesville and Cambridge.
