The Gahanna Convention and Visitors Bureau, also known as Visit Gahanna, has a new marketing and communications manager.

Madison Ashby, 22, said she is "beyond excited" to join the Visit Gahanna team.

"Gahanna is a beautiful city, with welcoming and residents," she said. "My past work and education experience has prepared me to promote the area as a vibrant tourist destination."

The Zanesville resident most recently worked as social-media manager for a Cleveland digital-marketing agency, Front Porch Solutions, where she developed written and visual content in the form of blog articles, social-media posts, press releases, website pages and newsletters.

Ashby fills the role left vacant by Mary Szymkowiak, whose last day with Visit Gahanna was March 19. She accepted a marketing-manager position with the city of Gahanna.

"I am excited to have Madison on the Visit Gahanna team, said Lori Kappes, Visit Gahanna executive director. "She is a great fit for this organization, and I am confident that she will do an excellent job promoting Gahanna."

Ashby received a bachelor's degree in journalism from Ohio University in 2019.

"I am excited to be in this new role, and I'm looking forward to meeting everyone and promoting all the wonderful things Gahanna has to offer," Ashby said.

She worked as a summer intern for the Zanesville-Muskingum County Convention and Visitors Bureau in 2016.

Ashby said she encourages residents to use Visit Gahanna's social-media platforms.

"One of our main goals is to attract more visitors to the area, but we always want Gahanna residents to be aware of the wonderful things going on in the area," she said. "During this stay-at-home order, we've used our social media to encourage residents to order from local (restaurants) and get fresh air at our local parks and trails.
