The Worthington Division of Fire and Emergency Medical Services is conducting its annual spring fire-hydrant flushing and preventative maintenance through the week of May 18.
The annual maintenance program, which began the week of April 20, allows firefighters to ensure the proper functioning of hydrants should they be needed in the event of a fire or other emergency.
During the inspection process, the firefighters will be opening the hydrants and allowing water to flow.
Residents may notice a temporary discoloration of tap water and a loss of water pressure for a short period after the fire hydrants are flushed, and they are advised to refrain from washing clothes, cleaning or cooking while the water is discolored. Water quality typically returns to normal within a few hours after flushing.
Hydrant maintenance will be conducted in specified areas of Worthington through the week of May 18.
