Editor's note: Organizers announced Sept. 1 they were canceling this event because they had received enough supplies.
Neighborhood Bridges will participate in the inaugural “Supporting Gahanna Together Day” event by holding a School Supply Drive-Thru Drop Off at City Hall, 200 S. Hamilton Road.
The group will collect school supplies and donations to help children and families in need from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 5.
Ron Smith, Gahanna area director of Neighborhood Bridges, said the organization has successfully assisted more than 80,000 children and families – including nearly 4,000 children in Gahanna – in 27 communities so far in 2020.
In addition to providing local families with supplies, Smith said, items also will be given to local learning-extension centers serving students through local churches.
Residents who want to participate in the supply drive should enter City Hall off Hamilton Road and exit onto Rocky Fork Boulevard.
The collection will take place in the back lot of City Hall, where Neighborhood Bridges will have its Kindness Van and volunteers ready to accept donations.
Smith said the following supplies will be collected: 24-count boxes of crayons, colored-pencil packs, No. 2 yellow pencils, washable markers (broad tip), fine-tip dry-erase markers, glue sticks, sticky notes, solid-color plastic folders (red, green and blue) and erasers.
