A pair of central Ohio high school juniors competed as individuals in the Division II state girls bowling tournament March 3 at Wayne Webb’s Columbus Bowl.

In what was the first state appearance for both athletes, Heath’s Kally Abrams tied for 54th (492) and Beechcroft’s Heather Lyons placed 76th (458) as Mechanicsburg’s Ally Hosier was medalist (656).

Abrams followed games of 140 and 148 with a 204.

“My first two games were a little rough, but I got a 204 in my last game,” Abrams said. “I just had to get the nerves out of me. In my last game my ball started hooking.

“It was a great experience. I got to meet some friendly people.”

Lyons, who was Beechcroft’s first state girls representative, bowled games of 156, 158 and 134.

“She had an off day, but to get here as a junior she can come back next year and she’s already had this experience,” coach Larry Bromagen said.

Representing the Central District as teams were Jonathan Alder, Galion Northmor and Marion Elgin, which placed seventh, eighth and ninth, respectively, behind champion Coldwater.

Also competing from the district was Cardington’s Gabreaelle Arnold, who tied for 46th (501).
