The Ready High School boys bowling team struggled to find its stroke during the qualifying round of the Division II state tournament March 4 at Wayne Webb’s Columbus Bowl.

After opening with an 876 and rolling a 907 in the second game, the Silver Knights shot just 806 in the third game. Then in the Baker games, Ready bowled a 479 and finished 14th (3,068) of 16 teams.

The top eight teams advanced to the championship round, where St. Marys Memorial went on to win the championship.

It was Ready’s third consecutive state appearance.

“It was a tough day, but I’m proud of them,” coach Russ Rehner said.

Jonathan Alder, the Central District’s other state qualifier, rolled a 3,259 to tie Mantua Crestwood for 11th.

Competing individually from the district were Licking Valley junior Jarrett Strait (tied for 29th, 588 three-game series) and Fredericktown senior Damian Kenned (tied for 67th, 510).

Senior Conner Carrera led the Silver Knights with a 26th-place finish (596), while classmates Ryan O’Harra (tied for 32nd, 586) and Ian Binns (tied for 73rd, 494) also competed in three games. Seniors Leo Dunkle and Jacob Winslow both competed in two games.
