On Friday, Sept. 1, the Reynoldsburg High School football team will try to beat St. Charles for the third consecutive season when it visits the Cardinals.
Reynoldsburg beat the Cardinals 37-22 in 2015 and 30-0 last season.
The Raiders opened Aug. 24 by losing 15-13 to New Albany, while the Cardinals began their season Aug. 25 by falling 53-0 to Upper Arlington.
Reynoldsburg’s defensive front, which features senior linemen Jay Amburgey, Mike Jeffery and Elijah Ratliff and junior linebacker Dezman Cooper, will be tasked with stopping the Cardinals’ triple-option offense.
Coach Buddy White is confident that group will respond.
“A lot of major colleges have been asking about (Amburgey),” White said. “He’s got tall, long arms and is thick and really athletic. Elijah Ratliff has committed to Marshall. Dez Cooper has been a starting outside linebacker since his freshman year.”
Reynoldsburg had beaten New Albany in three of the past five seasons, and all but one of those matchups was decided by a touchdown or less. The teams aren’t scheduled to play next season.
The Raiders’ J’Vonte Edwards scored on an 8-yard run in the second quarter. Then in the fourth, Guy Cowans-Wright ran in from 15 yards but Reynoldsburg’s two-point conversion pass failed.
