Grove City High School athletics director Kris Sander announced Aug. 31 that senior running back Devin Dukes has been ruled eligible by the OHSAA.

Dukes, a transfer from Ready, missed the Dawgs’ opener at Hilliard Davidson on Aug. 25 as the eligibility process continued. Grove City lost 24-0.

The Dawgs play host to Olentangy on Friday, Sept. 1, in new coach Tennyson Varney’s home debut.

Dukes finished last season with 2,194 yards rushing and 32 touchdowns and was named the Division VI district Offensive Player of the Year.

Late in the afternoon Aug. 31, he tweeted: “Officially CLEARED for the season.”

“It’s a great feeling,” Dukes said later. “It feels great to be a part of the Grove City Dawgs. ... I just kept faith and waited patiently.”
