The Westerville Central High School football team turned in its second consecutive impressive offensive performance with a 57-28 win over visiting Eastmoor Academy on Sept. 8.

Led by Allen Smith, the Warhawks opened a 42-6 lead at halftime on their way to the non-league win.

Central, which defeated Upper Arlington 31-21 on Sept. 1, improved to 2-1 while Eastmoor dropped to 1-2.

“I’m very happy,” Central coach John Magistro said. “I thought we played real well defensively. Once again, we had the short end of the field because of the kickoff returns. Allen Smith ran the ball well.”

Smith scored on first-half runs of 43, 37 and 22 yards, and finished with 186 yards on 14 carries.

Central quarterback Isaiah Healy opened the scoring with a 12-yard touchdown run on his team’s first possession and added a 16-yard scoring strike to Cameron Phillips in the final minute of the half.

Ashton Gilkey added a 51-yard touchdown run off a reverse late in the first quarter.

Cameron Long scored on an 85-yard kickoff return in the first quarter. Marquise Lester connected with Napoleon Harris for a 28-yard touchdown, and Savon Edwards Jr. scored on a 56-yard touchdown run in the third quarter to account for the Warriors’ big-play scoring.

Edwards led Eastmoor with 102 yards rushing.

“Edwards is a player,” Magistro said. “Their speed scared me and then we came out in the second half and tried to play a lot of guys and it sort of backfired on us a little bit, that’s OK. A lot of guys got good experience.”
