With its gymnasium floor undergoing needed repairs the past six weeks, the Dublin Scioto High School girls volleyball team was forced to move most of its home matches to Davis Middle School.

For many of the players, playing at Davis brought back fond memories.

"At first, it was a little disappointing, but it's been fun playing back at our middle school," senior middle hitter Madison Heasley said. "We had larger crowds. It's been a lot louder and more fun. It was weird at first because we were back to eighth grade, but it's been fun."

The Irish, whose roster is comprised mainly of Davis graduates, have been practicing all season in the auxiliary gym at Scioto. According to coach Jackie Wilson, that venue is not suitable for matches.

"There's something a little nostalgic about playing at their old middle school, and Davis has such a nice facility," Wilson said.

Wilson said the repairs to the gym floor at the high school will be completed earlier than expected and that the Irish will be able to play host to Logan at the venue on Wednesday, Oct. 11, in their regular-season finale. Wilson added that the team is scheduled to return to practice at Scioto on Friday, Oct. 6.

The Irish were 6-12 overall and 3-6 in the OCC-Cardinal Division before playing Thomas Worthington on Oct. 3.

"We expected to be a little bit better than this, but we knew our conference was going to be good and all six of those losses were good, competitive losses," Wilson said. "We've just been on the losing side of some really good matches. Some of that is the youth of our team. ... The best part of (the players) is that even though we've lost these close matches, they have not given up on their season."

Scioto was swept by league champion Worthington Kilbourne, but both matches against the Wolves were competitive, as the Irish lost 25-23, 25-18, 25-23 on Sept. 18 and 25-12, 25-21, 24-26, 20-25, 15-9 on Aug. 31.

"We have to be more consistent," Heasley said. "Being upbeat will get us through the rest of the season."
