Knowing she was nearing a milestone, Macy Spielman of the Upper Arlington High School girls basketball team admitted having some nerves Feb. 6 as the Golden Bears played Westerville South.

Then at the moment she scored her 1,000th career point, Spielman had an extra few seconds to think about it.

Spielman, a junior guard, became the third UA player to score 1,000 points when she made a free throw with 7 minutes, 24 seconds to play in the third quarter of a 73-51 loss to the Wildcats.

“I was just praying I would make at least one of those free throws,” Spielman said. “It was a cool experience. I tried not to tell people about it, but some people found out. It was nice to have the support. There were definitely some extra nerves.”

Michele DeVault, a 2004 graduate, and 2016 graduate Kortney Eisenman share the all-time program scoring record with 1,129 points.

Spielman, who finished with 14 points, is averaging 14.1 points in her career and at her current pace would break DeVault and Eisenman’s record either late this season if UA makes a deep postseason run or sometime early next season.
