The Upper Arlington High School football team recently received two academics-related awards.

The Golden Bears earned an Academic All-Ohio award from the Ohio High School Football Coaches Association during its annual banquet Feb. 9 at Hilton Columbus at Easton, and senior linebacker Dante Landolfi was presented the Dr. Sol Maggied-Larry Romanoff Award by the National Football Federation’s Columbus Chapter during its Scholar-Athlete banquet Feb. 12 at Ohio State.

Academic All-Ohio selections are made based on the overall GPA of a given team’s top 22 players. That group for UA had a cumulative 3.9 GPA, according to coach Joel Cutler.

The Dr. Sol Maggied-Larry Romanoff Award goes to outstanding scholar-athletes in central Ohio.

Landolfi is a Columbia University recruit.

Also at the OHSFCA banquet, seven assistant coaches received awards for years of service. Coaches Dan Bjelac, Barry Fox and Darrell Mayne received 30-year awards, Andy Gaspar was honored for 20 years of service and Steve Rayo, Joe Saffold and Michael Schaefer received 10-year awards.
