Jeff Sever has been named girls soccer coach at Thomas Worthington High School.

Although this will be his first coaching experience at the high school level, Sever has extensive experience in club soccer as a coach and program manager, according to athletics director Jen Goebbel.

Sever has been a coach with Worthington United 94 for eight years and has managed day-to-day operations for the Worthington United Premier program for five years.

Sever is the Cardinals’ fifth coach in less than two years.

Tim Barton stepped down following the 2016 season with a career record of 83-60-23 in nine seasons. He was replaced by Brad Pitman in the spring of 2017, but Pitman stepped down two weeks before his first season. He was replaced by assistant coach Tara Zimmer, who guided the Cardinals last season on an interim basis.

Courtney Irwin, who coached Worthington Kilbourne from 2002-05 and 2007-15, was tabbed as coach last November, but health issues forced her to step down during the spring.
