The Eastmoor Academy football team made a bad snap on the potential winning field goal Sept. 21, but holder Roshaun Harper kept his wits, picked up the ball and raced 25 yards to the end zone on the final play to give the Warriors a 26-20 victory over host Walnut Ridge in a City League-South Division game.

Thanks to a 32-yard kickoff return by Tyree Grace Sawyer, Eastmoor (4-1, 2-0) took over on the Walnut Ridge 32-yard line with 55 seconds left. Five plays later, the Warriors lined up for a 25-yard field goal by Gilbert Ansu. The snap dribbled to Harper, however, and he darted around left end to the end zone.

Walnut Ridge (4-1, 1-1) had tied the score on a 14-yard touchdown pass from Isaiah Murphy to Damien Wharley with 1:05 left, but the extra-point kick was blocked.

Although both teams made stops on the opening series, Eastmoor tilted field position into its favor.

Midway through the first quarter, Eastmoor took over on its 43 and got three runs by Savon Edwards Jr. totaling 17 yards. Then quarterback Marquise Laster hit Napoleon Harris down the sideline for a 40-yard touchdown connection.

Walnut Ridge answered quickly, thanks to a 44-yard run by Javarus Leach down to the Warriors' 6.

On second-and-goal, quarterback Isaiah Murphy scored from 2 yards out. The extra point kick, however, was blocked by Edwards, leaving Eastmoor with a 7-6 lead.

The Warriors continued to drive effectively on Walnut Ridge’s vaunted defense. Facing third-and-10 near midfield, Laster tossed a quick pass to Harris, who lateraled to Edwards on a hook and lateral. Edwards raced 44 yards to the Scots’ 8.

On third-and-goal at the 8, Laster completed a shovel pass to Micah Coleman, who barreled in for the TD and a 14-6 lead with 11:08 left in the half.

Walnut Ridge made a lengthy drive but again was forced to punt in Eastmoor territory.

Kaelyn Anderson gave Walnut Ridge hope by intercepting Laster downfield and returning the ball 44 yards to the Eastmoor 35.

But once again, the Eastmoor defense stiffened, stopping Walnut Ridge on fourth-and-5.

Walnut Ridge caught a big break at the end of third quarter when Eastmoor fumbled on a risky punt return. The Scots took over at the Warriors 27.

The Scots finally capitalized. Murphy hit Anderson down the middle, but he fumbled into the end zone; Leach recovered for a touchdown.

On a reverse, Qian Magwood completed a two-point conversion to Julius Wood to tie the score at 14.

Cameron Long then took the ensuing kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown.

Eastmoor mis-snapped the ball on the two-point conversion and led 20-14.
