Grove City Christian School girls volleyball coach Joe Bradford hopes to use a rematch at perennial power Fairfield Christian on Thursday, Sept. 27, as a measuring stick of his team's progress.
The Eagles were 5-7 overall before playing Bexley on Sept. 25. They are 2-3 in the MSL-Cardinal Division, including losing to visiting Fairfield Christian 25-9, 25-20, 25-8 on Sept. 4.
The Knights were 7-0 in the league before playing Harvest Prep on Sept. 25.
"They're playing really well right now and more than likely Division IV is going to run through them at the district level," Bradford said of the Knights. "We had some good competitive times with them the first time we played them, so we understand the things we need to do to give them a good fight. We'll be ready to go. Our kids get excited when we play them."
Fairfield Christian reached a Division IV state semifinal last season and has won four consecutive league titles.
Through 12 matches, Taylor Oda led the Eagles in assists (211) and digs (104), Katie Jacobs led in kills (104) and blocks (29) and Gidgyt Hartman led in aces (38).
"We haven't been as consistent as I'd like," Bradford said. "I like the energy of the girls. I like their attitudes. We always scrap. We always fight on the court. Our serve-receive is probably our biggest Achilles heel right now. When we do that well, we have some really good results. When we don't, we don't."
Grove City Christian's league match Sept. 18 at Millersport was postponed because of unplayable floor conditions and rescheduled for Oct. 16.
Boys soccer team hopes to rebound
The boys soccer team looked to end a four-game losing streak when it played Worthington Christian on Sept. 25.
The Eagles entered the game 4-5-1 overall. They are 2-3 in the MSL-Cardinal.
David Claffey scored on an assist from A.J. Gillespie in a 2-1 loss to Central Crossing on Sept. 18.
The Eagles lost to Fisher Catholic 2-0 on Sept. 22.
