Upper Arlington High School football coach Joel Cutler has been placed on administrative leave while his handling of health and wellness issues are investigated, athletics director Tony Pusateri announced Oct. 17.

“While these concerns are reviewed, coach Cutler will not be present at any UAHS athletic events, including practices and games, nor will he be responding to any communications regarding the football program,” Pusateri said in a letter to Golden Bears players and their families.

UA is 4-4 overall and 2-1 in the OCC-Central Division entering an Oct. 19 home game against Central Crossing, and remains in the hunt for a playoff berth in Division I, Region 2. The Bears are 10th in the region, and the top eight teams make the playoffs.

Cutler is in his fifth season at UA.

Assistant coach Barry Fox will be interim head coach. Fox, who previously has coached at Bowling Green, Findlay and Newark high schools, has been on staff for nine seasons.

Pusateri emphasized that the administrative leave does not impact Cutler’s job as a physical education teacher at Greensview Elementary School.
