The St. Charles Preparatory School water polo team won its first state championship since 2014 and fifth overall by defeating second-seeded Cincinnati Sycamore 17-6 in the championship game Oct. 27 at Mason.

The top-seeded Cardinals went 3-0 at state to finish 38-3. They also won championships in 2010, 2011, 2013 and 2014 and were state runners-up the past two seasons.

Thomas Lennox and Jon Sugar both had five goals in the final to lead St. Charles. Andrew Edwards had two goals, Griffin Beam, Chris Edwards, Will Elsrod, Travis Miller and Alex Nash each scored one and goalkeeper Seth Miller had nine saves.

Third-seeded Upper Arlington finished third at state, defeating fifth-seeded Cincinnati Princeton 16-15 in the consolation final.
