Veronica Brownlee will not return as Westerville South High School girls volleyball coach.

Brownlee said she was surprised by the school’s decision to not renew her contract and has been on “an emotional roller coaster.”

In two seasons under Brownlee, the Wildcats went 10-36 overall and 1-19 in the OCC-Buckeye Division.

Athletics director Josh DeVoll directed all questions about Brownlee’s status to the school district’s communications department, which released a statement Nov. 16.

“When there are concerns that an employee is not attaining one or more of (the school district’s) standards, or that they are not meeting other obligations inherent to working for a public school district, then it is our obligation to look into those concerns,” spokesman Greg Viebranz said in the statement. “Sometimes the concerns are unfounded. If, however, they are substantiated, then an appropriate course of action is followed. That is what has happened with the girls volleyball program at Westerville South.”
