Aaron Morton’s goal of qualifying for his first Division I state wrestling tournament has ended.

The Westerville South High School junior lost by disqualification in the All-North Tournament on Feb. 9 at Dublin Jerome, and that carries a two-event suspension from the Ohio High School Athletic Association, according to athletics director Josh DeVoll.

Morton was trailing Marysville’s Walker Heard in the 160-pound final when he was called for unsportsmanlike conduct.

“Aaron is a great kid (and) an outstanding wrestler,” DeVoll said. “He’s facing a little bit of adversity right now and I’m confident that he’ll handle it well and be able to ... bounce back even stronger next year as a senior.”

The Wildcats close the regular season Thursday, Feb. 14, at Westerville Central. They then will compete in a 10-team sectional Feb. 23 at Marysville, the second event of Morton’s suspension.

DeVoll said Morton is allowed to practice with the team and attend the events.

Competing in his first district tournament last winter, Morton went 1-2 at 152 to finish the season 36-12.
