During her first appearance at the Division II state girls bowling tournament, Ready High School junior Mary Zerrien settled in midway through the competition.

Zerrien rolled a 509 three-game series, including a 186 in the second game, to place 37th of 104 bowlers while competing as an individual March 1 at Wayne Webb’s Columbus Bowl.

“It was a pretty good time,” Zerrien said. “It was tough, but I’m not mad about it. It’s just an experience and hopefully I’ll be back next year.”

Madison Stanton of Struthers bowled a 634 to earn medalist honors.

The Central District was represented by three squads in the team competition. Jonathan Alder finished 13th (2,841), Cardington was 15th (2,741) and Sparta Highland placed 16th (2,597).

St. Marys Memorial finished first in the qualifying round with 3,236 pins and went on to win the title in the championship round.

Zerrien bowled a 159 in her opening game and a 164 in her final game after earning the third and final individual state-qualifying berth at the district tournament Feb. 21 at HP Lanes.

“She did really well,” coach Russ Rehner said. “I was very proud of her.”
