Kim Atherton, a former assistant for the Dublin Coffman High School girls volleyball team, has been named coach, replacing Mary Anne Souder.

Atherton guided Marion Pleasant to 11 Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference titles from 2002-13 and a Division III district title in 2013. She was named district Coach of the Year seven times and had more than 200 wins with the Spartans.

An Ohio State graduate, Atherton was an assistant coach under Souder in 2014 and ’15 and is the lead nurse for Dublin City Schools. Her daughter, Hunter, was the starting setter in 2015 when the Shamrocks lost to Cincinnati Mount Notre Dame 25-23, 25-23, 25-20 in the Division I state championship match.

“I’m really excited,” Atherton said. “I know the history of the program and have been involved with it for several years. I got an opportunity to meet the girls and all the new faces and I’ve got big shoes to fill, but I think we’ve got a great future ahead of us.”

Souder compiled a 297-51 record in 13 seasons at Coffman. Last fall, the Shamrocks went 23-4 and were a regional semifinalist.
