The Delaware Christian School track and field program has expanded since last season.

The boys and girls teams have 14 combined athletes this spring after having nine last year.

Lyssi Snouffer, a two-time Division III state qualifier, returns to lead the girls team, which consists of six athletes.

The junior placed second at state last year in the high jump (5 feet, 6 inches) after finishing third (5-7) as a freshman.

"Lyssi has goals of winning the state championship in the high jump and also reaching state in the long jump," coach Mike Gregory said. "She finished seventh in the regional in the long jump (15-11 1/2) last year. She also has begun to focus a little more on the track this year."

In an eight-team meet April 9 at Crestline, Snouffer won the high jump (school-record 5-8) and the 200 meters (27.73 seconds) and placed second in the long jump (16-3 1/2).

Also back is sophomore Erin Bauslaugh, who placed 10th at regional last season in the long jump (15-8).

At Crestline, Bauslaugh placed third in the long jump (15-6 1/2), fourth in the 200 (9.38) and fifth in the 100 (13.73) as the Eagles finished sixth (54 points) behind champion Galion (140).

Also on the squad are junior Abbi Maurer (throws), sophomore Niki Snedden (hurdles) and freshmen Cami Dellipoala (distance) and Abby McKee (distance).

The boys team has eight athletes this spring, up from four last year.

Ike Hedges (sprints, long jump) is the lone senior. He is joined on the team by juniors Pryce Johnson (shot put, sprints) and Temirlan Snedden (distance), sophomores Ben Chesnes (throws), Trent Gregory (throws), Ben Otto (distance) and Nathan Stewart (long jump, sprints) and freshman Evan Hobbs (long jump, sprints).

"Ike has a lot of untapped sprinting potential and Temirlan is a third-year distance runner who is aiming for a sub-five-minute 1,600," Gregory said.

At Crestline, Snedden placed seventh in the 800 (2:33.14) and eighth in the 1,600 (5:32.77) and Hedges was eighth in the 200 (25.78).
