Week 2 represents an anniversary, of sorts, for quarterback Jared Knight and the Grove City football team.

Knight emerged as the starter in Week 2 last season against Westerville Central, and the junior has held the position since.

Knight will get another chance to face Central on Friday, Sept. 6, at Grove City.

A season ago, the Warhawks pulled away in the second half for a 45-14 victory and their first win in the series. Grove City defeated Central 48-34 in 2004 and 38-20 in 2005.

"I'm preparing differently than I did last year," said Knight, who passed for 621 yards last season. "I played safety in the first game (last season). The coaching staff has helped me a lot with that and our team is also preparing very well. I think everything is going to be great."

The Dawgs are coming off a 0-10 season, which followed a 1-9 mark in 2017 and a 0-10 record in 2016. Grove City is seeking its first winning season since 2013 when it finished 6-4.

Senior Jevin Yors, who was the Dawgs' top receiver last season with 36 receptions for 489 yards and one touchdown, has moved to wingback.

Senior running back Cole Crager rushed for 391 yards and one touchdown a year ago.

"We're going to continue to do what we do best," Knight said. "We're going to run the ball with this new (wing-T) offense we have. The offense is looking great. Our team is coming together very well. We have some big playmakers now. A lot of our skilled guys are seniors. We have a lot of returnees. I think we'll be OK."

The Warhawks, who opened Aug. 30 against Whitehall, again should feature a potent spread attack led by senior Rickey Hyatt, who rushed for 470 yards and five touchdowns after converting from receiver to tailback late last season. Also a safety, he had 94 tackles and three interceptions.

Sophomore Judah Holtzclaw has replaced 2019 graduate LaBronz Davis II at quarterback.
