The Pickerington Central football team used a dominating effort to avoid its first two-game losing streak since 2011.

The host Tigers opened a 21-0 lead at halftime on their way to a 28-7 win over Hilliard Davidson on Sept. 27.

Central, which improved to 4-1, rebounded from a 19-14 loss to Groveport on Sept. 20.

“We had to get our feet back on the ground, and I’m not just talking as a team,” Central coach Jay Sharrett said. “I’m talking as a coaching staff, as a program. We played a great Groveport team last week, but we didn’t play our best football. We had to get our feet back on the ground. We had a good week of practice and we responded the way I thought we would and now we’re 4-1.”

Davidson lost its second game in a row to drop to 3-2. The Wildcats fell to Olentangy Liberty 22-10 on Sept. 20.

Nick Mosley rushed for 146 yards and two touchdowns on 23 carries to lead the Tigers, who controlled play throughout the game, finishing with a 368-130 advantage in total yards.

Davidson moved into Central territory on its first possession, but the drive stalled and the Wildcats punted.

The Tigers opened the scoring with a 13-play, 97-yard drive capped by Mosley’s 5-yard touchdown run with 1 minute, 46 seconds remaining in the first quarter.

Central built a 14-0 lead on quarterback Demeatric Crenshaw’s 15-yard touchdown pass to Lorenzo Styles Jr., and Mosley capped the first-half scoring with an 8-yard touchdown run with 2:29 left in the second quarter.

The Tigers extended their lead to 28-0 in the third quarter with a 38-yard touchdown run by Crenshaw.

Davidson avoided the shutout with a 2-yard touchdown run by Jonathan Weir with 7.3 seconds remaining in the game. Weir rushed for 44 yards on nine carries to lead the Wildcats.

“We’re not talented enough to beat anybody without putting hard work in,” Davidson coach Brian White said. “It starts with us during practice and I don’t know if we’ve necessarily gotten better over the last couple of weeks like we had to. I’m not saying getting better to the point where we beat Liberty or Pick Central, but getting better just in the fundamentals of football and I don’t know if we have the last two weeks.”
