Grove City Christian football coach Hank Patterson continues to see promise in his team.
The Eagles had chances to win their third game before losing 16-12 at Morral Ridgedale on Oct. 11.
Grove City Christian led 12-9 early in the fourth quarter.
"They fought hard all the way to the end," Patterson said. "I hope this can continue. I really hope we can keep this together. We could have something very spectacular next year."
The Eagles, who fell to 2-5, play host to Newbury on Friday, Oct. 18. The Black Knights were added to the schedule after Zanesville Rosecrans opted to leave the MSL-Cardinal Division and play eight-man football.
Newbury, a Division VII, Region 25 program from Geauga County in northeast Ohio, is 4-3. The Black Knights, who began the season with 19 players on the roster, are coming off a 42-16 loss to Andover Pymatuning Valley on Oct. 11.
"I looked at their roster and they're about the same size as Ridgedale," Patterson said.
"They have some big guys. We can offset that with perfect plays. I'm really amazed that our young guys can get it done."
Christian Lautenschleger led the Eagles against Ridgedale, rushing for 147 yards on 22 carries. His 80-yard touchdown run with 11 minutes, 37 seconds remaining gave his team a 12-9 lead.
