The Dublin Jerome football team was rolling along until it ran into a roadblock in Delaware.
The Celtics had a three-game winning streak before losing to Delaware 28-7 on Oct. 11 to drop to 5-2 overall and 3-1 in the OCC-Cardinal Division.
Coach Bob Gecewich hopes to remedy the problems that arose against the Pacers before the Celtics take the field Friday, Oct. 18, at Hilliard Bradley in another league contest.
"We have to go back to work and focus on us," Gecewich said. "I know that sounds like coach-speak, but look at the games that we won and the ones that we have lost. We win when we take care of ourselves and we lost the ones where we shot ourselves in the foot."
The Jaguars improved to 2-5 overall and 2-2 in the OCC-Cardinal with a 21-19 win at Olentangy Berlin on Oct. 11. Luke Erwin broke up a two-point conversion pass with 3 minutes, 36 seconds remaining to secure the victory.
"We did a great job with field position in the first half and Berlin won it in the second half," Bradley coach Mike LoParo said. "Luke Erwin made a great play to help us win. Berlin was a pretty good team."
Quarterback A.J. Mirgon rushed for 105 yards and three touchdowns on 21 carries and was 11-for-21 passing for 107 yards against Berlin. Evan Yee added 82 rushing yards on 24 carries and Ethan Poff had three catches for 42 yards.
"In the five years I have been here, they have had top-end talent," Gecewich said of the Jaguars. "... They have great talent."
On the season for Jerome, Adam Booth has rushed for 764 yards and nine touchdowns on 147 carries, and quarterback Ryan Miller has 373 yards rushing and five scores on 64 carries and is 79-for-132 passing for 792 yards with nine touchdowns and eight interceptions. Seth Martin is his primary target with 28 catches for 235 yards and one score.
"They are really good, their quarterback slings it around, they have good receivers and they have big, long offensive linemen," LoParo said of the Celtics. "Defensively, they fly around to the ball, and they read-react really well. The defensive line is aggressive and gets off the ball well. They are going to blitz and make you work hard for every yard."
