The St. Charles water polo team won its second consecutive state championship by edging Upper Arlington 9-8 in the state final Oct. 26 at Mason.

Thomas Lennox scored six goals and Travis Miller scored two for the top-seeded Cardinals, who went 3-0 in the 14-team state tournament and finished the season 42-5.

St. Charles defeated 11th-seeded Milford 19-7 in its state opener and sixth-seeded Cincinnati Princeton 24-5 in a state semifinal.

Fourth-seeded UA went 3-1 at state and finished 25-14. The Golden Bears defeated 12th-seeded Sylvania 23-5, seventh-seeded Toledo St. Francis 10-6 and second-seeded Cincinnati St. Xavier 11-6 in a state semifinal before falling to St. Charles.

Fifth-seeded Thomas Worthington went 3-1 at state and placed ninth. The Cardinals lost their opener 9-7 to St. Francis before beating Sylvania 15-3, 13th-seeded Mason 15-4 and eighth-seeded Napoleon 8-4 in the ninth-place game.
