The Westerville Central football team kept its postseason hopes alive with a 41-7 win at Olentangy on Nov. 1.

The Warhawks snapped a two-game losing streak and improved to 7-3 overall while finishing 2-3 in the OCC-Buckeye Division.

Central entered the game 10th in Division I, Region 3. The top eight teams in each region qualify for the playoffs.

Olentangy committed seven turnovers while Central had one.

“That’s a great team that we played,” Central coach Brent Morrison said. “I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a (Mark) Solis offense only score seven points. Our defense just dominated from the get-go. Seven turnovers is incredible. Offensively, we came out and had a little swagger.”

Olentangy slipped to 5-5 overall and also finished 2-3 in the OCC-Buckeye. The Braves entered the game sixth in Division II, Region 7.

“Seven turnovers,” Solis said. “When you have seven turnovers, you deserve that (final score).”

Central jumped out to a 7-0 lead on the game’s opening possession, as Myles Williamson broke free for a 57-yard touchdown run with 9 minutes, 29 seconds remaining in the first quarter.

The Warhawks seized control in the second quarter, scoring 20 points to take a 27-0 lead into halftime.

In the quarter, Central quarterback Judah Holtzclaw connected with Luke Swaney for touchdown passes of 21 and 7 yards and Rickey Hyatt scored on a 50-yard touchdown run.

Hyatt also had an interception and a fumble recovery on defense.

Williamson finished with 79 yards rushing and a touchdown on nine carries and Holtzclaw completed eight of 12 passes for 104 yards and two scores.

Olentangy avoided the shutout in the fourth quarter with a 33-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Trent Maddox to Daniel Kelley.

Maddox completed 14 of 27 passes for 130 yards with a touchdown and four interceptions.
