The sixth-ranked DeSales girls volleyball team defeated eighth-ranked Olentangy Orange 27-25, 25-16, 26-28, 25-22 in a Division I regional final Nov. 2 at Worthington Kilbourne to advance to the state tournament for the first time since 2014.

The Stallions improved to 25-2 and will play Solon in a state semifinal at noon Nov. 8. The Comets improved to 18-9 by defeating Canton GlenOak 25-18, 25-17, 26-24 in a regional final Nov. 2.

Orange finished 22-5.

“We had a general game plan of keeping our composure and winning our side of the net,” DeSales coach Brenden Pence said. “We got punched a little in the third set but bounced back. The message in the fourth set was to regain our composure and apply pressure when we could.”

Emma Brown led the Stallions with 14 kills, followed by Maryanne Boyle with 13 and Saje Washington with 12. Also for DeSales, Bella D’Amico had 35 assists and Bridget Javitch had 24 digs.

London Davis had a team-high 19 kills for the Pioneers to go with three blocks. Molly Shomock added 10 kills and four blocks, Hanna Borer had 34 assists, Addie Evans had 28 digs and Maya Hendricks added 25 digs.

“We never gave up and we were able to fight back and win the third game,” Orange coach Katie Duy said. “DeSales has a few good seniors who were able to take over when they needed it.”
