Hilliard Darby senior Daniella Santos represented central Ohio in the Foot Locker Cross Country Nationals on Dec. 14 in California.

Santos finished 28th of 40 high school girls from around the country in 18 minutes, 23.7 seconds on Morley Field at Balboa Park in San Diego, a 1.5-mile loop that is run twice, totaling 5,000 meters.

Santos, who said the conditions that morning were cloudy skies with temperatures in the 60s, was proud to represent Darby as well as the Columbus area on such a big stage.

“It felt pretty good,” she said. “It was rewarding to know that all my hard work paid off.”

Santos was among the top 10 runners from the Midwest to qualify for nationals. She finished ninth (18:12.3) of 268 runners in the Midwest Region Championship on Nov. 30 in Kenosha, Wisconsin.

Two other area runners, Hilliard Davidson junior Lindsay Stull and Dublin Jerome senior Elliott Cook, also competed in the Midwest regional. Stull placed 26th (19:00.8) in the girls race and Cook placed 67th (17:00.7) of 258 runners in the boys race.
