Hilliard Davidson gymnastics coach Carol Eskay is hoping her team's steady progress over the course of the season will lead to strong performances in the OCC-Central Division meet as well as the postseason.
Eskay has been impressed with her gymnasts' abilities to improve their scores in individual events as well as in the all-around.
"They're really trying to clean things up," Eskay said. "They're getting stronger and more consistent with their scores. They're starting to make connections on (uneven) bars, starting to clean up floor (exercise), so I'm pretty happy with it."
The Wildcats went 3-4 in the OCC-Central dual meets, losing to both Marysville and Upper Arlington as part of a six-team meet Jan. 29. Davidson scored a 121.85 to place fifth behind Bradley (130.6), Darby (130.15), host Marysville (128.35) and UA (127.9) and ahead of Fairbanks (18.05).
UA went 7-0 in the league dual meets.
Hope Tageson led the Wildcats on Jan. 29 by finishing seventh in the all-around (32.1). She tied teammate Megan McCabe for first on vault (8.15), tied for fifth on bars (7.9) and tied for 11th on balance beam (8.25).
McCabe tied for 10th in the all-around (30.9) and was 11th on floor (8.15).
Davidson will compete in the eight-team OCC-Central meet Wednesday, Feb. 12, at Marysville before preparing for the district meet Feb. 22 at Worthington Kilbourne.
"I like the league meet," Eskay said. "It's a culmination of the regular season, so it's a good time."
At district, the top three teams advance to the state team meet Feb. 28 at Bradley and the top eight finishers in each event and the all-around advance to the state individual meet Feb. 29, also at Bradley.
"It's anybody's game when it comes to (the district meet)," Eskay said. "Sometimes the most consistent people you think that are going, they don't have their best day. I always tell the girls just to do their best and see where the cards fall."
Girls team looks to place second in OCC
The girls basketball team will look to lock up sole possession of second place in the OCC-Central when it plays host to Westland on Friday, Feb. 7, in its regular-season finale.
