The Africentric girls basketball team earned its fifth consecutive Division III regional championship with a 38-34 victory over Ottawa-Glandorf on March 7 at Lexington.

The two-time defending state champion Nubians improved to 23-4 and advanced to the state tournament for the 11th time. They will face Anna (22-6) in a semifinal March 13 at St. John Arena.

Africentric lost to Anna in the 2013 state final.

Against Ottawa-Glandorf, the Nubians led 23-15 at halftime but were outscored 8-4 in the third quarter. Both teams scored 11 points in the fourth quarter.

Senior guard Alexia Smith had 14 points to lead Africentric and senior post player Sakima Walker, senior guard Nyam Thornton and junior guard Arianna Smith all scored six for the Nubians.

Ottawa-Glandorf, which was trying to get back to state after making four consecutive appearances from 2015-18, finished 25-2.

Africentric was ranked second in the final state poll behind Berlin Hiland, which will play fourth-ranked Elyria Catholic in the other state semifinal March 13.
